Huawei P30 Pro : Is this the new camera king?

Imagine a phone with all that a Pixel 3XL has with a better camera and better battery life ?

The P30 Pro addresses the few downsides of Huawei’s already excellent Mate 20 Pro from last year, and it adds a sophisticated new camera system that promises up to 10x lossless zoom. Huawei is omitting an earpiece on the P30 Pro, making innovative use of electromagnetic levitation to vibrate the top of the screen to generate call audio. That means there are no stereo speakers on this phone, and there are also more discreet phone calls because call sound will only propagate in one direction.

Ok, before getting lost in all of the details about Huawei’s new quad-camera system, it’s worth quickly noting the salient specs of the P30 Pro. This new phone is built around the 7nm Kirin 980 processor that Huawei designs itself, which I really liked in the Mate 20 Pro and the Honor View 20 (you can check out my article on the view 20). It’s still a flagship-quality part, and it’ll remain so for the foreseeable future. Huawei will pair that with a typical 8GB of RAM and storage options from 128GB to 512GB!!!

The display is a 6.47-inch curved OLED panel with 2340 x 1080 resolution and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. On the inside, there’s a massive 4,200mAh battery, which can be topped up to 70 percent full in 30 minutes using Huawei’s 40W SuperCharge wired charging. The P30 Pro also supports 15W wireless charging as well as reverse wireless charging. So yes, you’ll be able to charge your Samsung Galaxy Buds and the new Apple Air pod's 2 off the back of this phone.

The reason for that big vertical slab of cameras on the back of the P30 Pro is, of course, this phone’s zoom capabilities. In order from top to bottom: you get an ultra wide angle lens for grand architecture or big group photos; the main camera, which is now augmented with optical image stabilization; and a new periscope zoom lens that offers 5x optical zoom. Huawei claims that, by combining the image data from the main camera and the telephoto lens, the P30 Pro can produce a 10x lossless zoom.

Ok this is exciting...on the video front, Huawei is promising to add a “Dual Video” recording function that will shoot simultaneous video from both the main and the telephoto sensor, combining them into a single widescreen side-by-side video. This will come as part of a future software update.

The most interesting part in this phone is the 50x zoom which we might not use that much, but you never know? 50x zoom...
The Huawei P30 Pro comes with a Leica-branded quad-camera module on the rear, with a primary 40 MP (f/1.6) SuperSpectrum sensor, a 20 MP ultra-wide angle camera, an 8MP telephoto camera (which is the most notable upgrade, as you’ll see), and finally a Huawei-made Time-of-Flight (TOF) sensor. There’s a 32MP selfie camera in tow as well.
The company has placed the three cameras in a vertical module on the rear, with the LED flash, flicker and color temperature sensors, and the TOF sensor sitting to the right of the same. Before we move on and learn what each sensor will be used for, let’s check out the module right here
Starting off with the primary SuperSpectrum sensor, Huawei has upgraded the traditional RGB Bayer filter by swapping out the green pixels with ‘superior’ yellow pixels. This has means you get an RYB sensor, which Huawei says can yield a maximum ISO rating of up to 409,600 on the P30 Pro.
This has been termed as the SuperZoom lens by Huawei and it’s capable of high-fidelity magnification up to 5 times optical zoom, 10 times hybrid zoom, and 50 times digital zoom. It’s mind-boggling how the Chinese giant has achieved this feat but we’ll have to wait for a hands-on with the device to see how this feature performs.
This sensor also packs OIS, so you have dual-OIS aboard the Huawei P30 Pro, which is certainly going to be handy for handheld night shots.

The depth map, with precisely accurate image segmentation and distance measurement, enables multiple levels of bokeh that you will be able to adjust on the device. This sensor will also come handy in facilitating future mobile AR developments, but solely on the P30 Pro as it’s missing from the P30.
Let me know what you think about Huawei P30 Pro in the comments down below as the people's opinion is what that matters a lot. Do you think the camera in this phone is better than that in the Google Pixel 3Xl?
