Amazon Alexa : Is the future here?

     Have you ever dreamt of asking questions or giving instructions using your voice ? Well, then congratulations!!! Your dream has finally come true. Amazon, the largest E-commerce company on the planet has launched their own Artificial Intelligence server, Alexa or famously known as Amazon Alexa. They launched their first smart speaker the Echo and the Echo Dot on November 2014. 

     Alexa is capable of voice interaction, playing music, making to-do lists, setting alarms, playing audiobooks, ordering goods from Amazon, and providing weather, traffic and sports news. Echo can answer questions such as "Alexa, what is the time in Silicon Valley ?" or "Alexa, what is the tallest mountain in the world ?". It can also play music form amazon prime music (for which you need an account), Spotify, Saavan, Apple Music, Pandora and from other radio stations.Alexa can also crack jokes {which are not always good ;) }.

     Before running the device the user has to install the Amazon Alexa App which is available in Android and iOS. After installing the app you have to connect the device to the App. Once it is connected you can connect the app to your phone contacts if you would like to make calls with it.

Today we will be taking a look at some of the devices which is supported by Alexa.

1. Amazon Echo
   
     The Amazon echo was offically launched on November 2014, developed by Amazon lab 126.The Amazon Echo itself is a 5.8" in height and 3.5" in diameter. The sound quality of the speaker very good and the bass is average, it is a good device for casual music. The device has 2.5" woofer, 0.6" tweeter. It has Dual speakers powered by Dolby, 7 built in microphones which makes it usable even when we are far away from the speaker. On the top the device has the volume rockers, a microphone button and a mute button. The top is surrounded by a well lit blue colored light ring.

It is available in Black, Grey and White. It is sold for Rs.9,999 in India an $99 in the US.


 2. Amazon Echo Dot

      The Amazon Echo Dot was launched along with the Amazon echo. It is like the little brother of Amazon echo. It is 99x99x43 mm. The Echo dot can do all the things the echo can, except it is smaller in size, it does not support dolby speakers due to its small size. It can easily fit into any room. If you are a beginner into the Amazon smart speaker family then this is the best choice. It is sold for just Rs.4,999 in India and $49.99 in the US.

The Echo dot has a special kids edition which is $69.99. It has 1 year of Amazon free unlimited time with kids friendly cases. It supports Cartoon Network, Disney and Nicklodeon. It has kid friendly DJ, comedian and storyteller.



3. Amazon Echo Show

     The Amazon echo Show has the same Alexa but with a 10.1" touch HD screen! So, now you can watch Amazon pime videos,movies and TV shows have video chats and calls. You can also play games in it. The device has  Dual 2" neodymium drivers with a passive bass radiator and 2 x 10W and Dolby processing for room-filling sound. It has eight microphones and far-field technology so Alexa can hear you even while music is playing.

It is available in black and white color. It is not available in India right now. It is sold for $229.99.

4. Amazon Echo Spot
   
    The Echo spot is the small brother of the Echo show. It is again the same as the echo show but the Echo spot has a 1.4" speaker with a 2.5" screen size and 480 x 480 screen resolution smaller than the echo show.The Echo show has only 4 microphones which is a  disappointment for its price range.

Huawei's new Operating System...

Google has now restricted Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei from using Android, cutting off the company’s license for the operating system. This, according to reports from The Verge, and Reuters, is an action taken by Google based on the US Commerce Department’s decision to place Huawei on the ‘Entity List’ which is a list of companies that aren’t allowed to buy technology from US companies without government approval. Commenting on the matter, a Google spokesperson said to The Verge,  “We are complying with the order and reviewing the implications.”H owever, this change won’t immediately impact users using existing Huawei phones.   After Google restricted Huawei’s use of Android for its future smartphones yesterday, effectively cutting off Huawei from everything Google other than the Android Open Source Project, new reports from Chinese media have come out with the claim that Huawei’s in-house operating system for its smartphones will reportedly be called HongMeng .
